Design Concept

Communication and Community building

The Swedish freelancers want that community support and collaboration to be some sort of an online forum or user groups where you can connect with other users in your niche or to gain insights and learn. It was considered that access should be open and not put behind a subscription wall to access. Also to not set it to be mandatory to parctipiate in the communities, but to still be able to use the rest of the platform.

It was brought up that some preferred the communities to be on the platform and some wanted to connect the freelance platforms to community platforms that is already in use, such as Facebook and Whatsapp. It was shared that an opportunity to hold courses to other users and connect with those that have taken courses was seen as an opportunity to widen their network.

There should also be some sort of control of who can enter the groups and connect with you, suggestions was shared to implement some type of level-gated communities for specific niches.

Participants are neutral to agreeing if they would stay on the platform if communication and community building align with their needs.

Community Support and Collaboration

Online user community forum

User quote

"It's this concept of a forum where people can help each other."

Interest-Based Group Communication

User quote

"So you get straight out into a group with people that you're either selling things with or buying like you have that in common."

Peer advice for improvement

User quote

"That's actually one thing I've thought about, because there's a lot of sellers who is much, much better than me and I basically have no no way of contacting them like obviously I can contact them as a client."

Integrate external forums

User quote

"So maybe if they build out communities in, let's say, Whatsapp groups maybe on Instagram, maybe Facebook and they could in have like maybe an API through fiverr that just connects you straight into WhatsApp, maybe people there are buying same services, maybe they could have like a easy algorithm that connects people that have bought the same service within the latest year, maybe even from the same country."

Collaborative Learning Community

Course-Related User Connections

User quote

"fiverr specifically has this and upwork this as well to some degree at where they have this like community on the email side where it's sort of on the back end of of the platform where you you can go in and look at some courses and you can chat with the Members that I've already seen those courses as well."

Offer Lessons to Other Users

User quote

"And maybe share some experiences or tips and tricks for example, I for example offer lessons within a program called Vegas Pro.
"

User Levels and Niche-Based Communities

User Level-Gated Community

User quote

"So only level 2 people and could share could ride, could chat in it, and then once you reach the level 2, that's when you when you get there."

Niche-based communities

User quote

"If I can access the niche like content writing like uh, video editing and I can find many people are many people are still there and I can talk to them and fix the problem."

Avoid Unregulated and Quantity-Based Connections

Do Not Allow Unfiltered User Connections

User quote

"Broadly speaking, the majority of people on Fiverr are from Bangladesh and Pakistan, and then we Nordics stand out quite a lot in terms of quality and probably you do not want a forum with Pakistan or such who barely speak English but maybe some forum where sellers can talk to other sellers, maybe in the same industry."

Avoid Structuring the Community Around Connection Quantity

User quote

" What I don't want to see,I would not want to see something similar to maybe uh, like platforms like Instagram or Twitter where you have like very it's very open who you follow and it's very profile based. How many friends you have,
How many posts you've made so that the platform is not that your profile is based upon how many connections you've made."

Flexible and Inclusive Community Policies

Avoid Unregulated and Paid Community Access

User quote

"I would certainly not like to see their costs getting any higher. Because they do take about 20% per order, which I find pretty steep, so I don't I I'm a bit against their new paid service because I do offer some sort of subscription based."

Do Not Mandate Community Participation

User quote

"I haven’t thought about community building and don’t have any ideas or things I don’t want. I suppose, I wouldn’t want anything I was forced to engage with."

Avoid Policing External User Interactions

User quote

"I definitely don't want to see more preventions from people to take their work (outside the platform). We're gonna do that anyway, so I think that's a bad practice from fiver to chase down people that trying to make deals outside of fiver, cause most people do."
